I’ve never considered myself a generalist trainer – being focused specifically on my storytelling for presentations and business communication work – but the same principles of session planning applied when I developed a programme for Voluntary Arts England
More Than Just a Time Sink is training for volunteer organisers of arts groups of how, and when social media can be put to use for their organisation. Most recently I’ve been delivering it in Devon in conjunction with Villages in Action.
Having experienced an amount of social media training full of unrealistically high expectations when I was flirting with small business networking, I wanted something much more practical.
The result is a training session which asks volunteers to consider both what they want to achieve and what they enjoy doing before they embark on the social media whirl – and explores the differences between facebook and twitter depending on individual goals.
I love delivering it, it changes every time to suit the group, and I’m learning more and more about how to encourage people to dip their toes in the water!
