When you work in fundraising, sometimes it is the big bids that dominate. Today on the other hand, I’m enjoying reflecting on change, organisation, evaluation and what a difference it can make to the ongoing, day to day work of a fundraiser.
I handle Big Brum Theatre in Education’s Trust and Grants Fundraising – which is predominantly focussed on a portfolio of 20-30 different small grant making trusts, and since I took over this work have implemented simple systems for lifting the key project outputs and pairing them with teacher and student testimonials about the experience, and dropping them into documents that Trustees can read quickly and easily. My life has recently been made easier, as the development officers at the company are also huge fans of evaluation, and have been developing focus groups, scale questionnaires and more in order to improve the information available. This makes bid writing a much more pleasant experience.
