I was born in the slate and rain of the Lake District and 18 years later ran off to London in search of the city brights.
Infinity pool views from mountain tarns or the swarm of crowds pouring through city streets. Both landscapes are fuel for the creative approach I like to take to work and life – bringing a fresh and genuinely committed energy to each project I take on.
My current work is a rich mix, all rooted in the power of narrative. You will find me one day crawling through willow tunnels with seven year olds as we research ideas for a new story garden, the next coaching executives in a board room before an important conference and a day later balancing the budget of an exciting arts project for a new grant application. The following week I might be producing copy or design for an event I am promoting, making an interactive game to run in a night club or country park, or working on a solo performance rooted in ancient myths.
The experience I bring has been built up over nearly 20 years. In the mid 90’s I began work in the arts sector. I started out directing student theatre and organising marketing campaigns for small fringe companies, moved into community arts and then into local government, running arts services and building local and sub regional strategic partnerships. With growing specialisms in community connections and strategic planning I developed a raft of creative approaches to consultation and business development – many of which influence both my work in schools and training for businesses now. I also bring knowledge from a full gamut of local government and arts related training including such varied topics as evidence based practice in youth work, social capital measurement and recruitment and selection.
I have been storytelling since 2006, and in 2009 I took a year out and travelled to the States to study the traditional art form and many of its applied uses. This appreciation of narrative and its role in our psychology is crucial to the work I do.
